Berkeley Residence
The Benjamin Franklin Institute of Technology offers limited housing through a relationship with the Berkeley YWCA residence. The Berkeley Residence is located directly across the street from the college in the heart of the South End. The Residence hosts both male and female occupants serving as both a permanent residence and a hostel for tourists both nationally and abroad. This year, BFIT will offer space to approximately 40 students. The cost for the 2008/2009 academic year will be $8,400 ($4,200 per semester). The Residence offers the following:
- Single rooms furnished with a bed, bureau, desk, and closet (double rooms may be available at a slightly lesser cost)
- Two meals daily (breakfast and dinner) included in cost of room and board
- Bathrooms/showers on each floor,
- WiFi Internet access (serviced and supported by BFIT) - free to students
- Coin-operated laundry
- Central TV area and spacious living room with fireplace
- Cable TV access in each room that can be purchased by each student
- Short walk to many restaurants, shopping and recreational facilities
- 24 hour reception and security service
- Light housekeeping
Two resident advisors will live on site throughout the academic year. They will conduct bi-weekly meetings at the Berkeley Residence to assist students with the transition to college, build community and create social opportunities among students and review and enforce all policies of BFIT and the Berkeley Residence. There is a handbook provided by the Berkeley Residence as well as a student handbook provided by BFIT. Students will be required to adhere to the policies and regulations of both institutions.
There are additional programs that involve the ability for students to purchase a lunch plan with Billy�s Sub Shop and a student membership at the Wang YMCA of Chinatown. These costs are separate from the housing agreement.
